The twin-island of Trinidad and Tobago is known as the Rainbow Country because of its colorful setting. Famous for its Carnival, the name Trinidad is associated with calypso music, dazzling costumes, and the sound of steel drum bands. In Trinidad the capital and main commercial hub, Port of Spain is lined with colonial-styled brick houses and contemporary skyscrapers towering over the city. The fortresses, Fort George and Fort Picton, with its tower, offer a panoramic view of the Gulf of Paria. The National Museum and Art Gallery has interesting historic factors. The popular sports area, 200-acre Queen's Park Savannah is covered with enormous trees, manicured lawns, flower beds and lily ponds. Other intriguing points are The National Museum and Art Gallery; The Magnificent Seven, opulent mansions built by plantation owners; and Stollmeyer Castle, a Moorish-style white hall that once housed the office of the Prime Minister and Queens Royal College, a high school for boys. Tobago its sister island is much smaller and is blessed with innate beauty and captivating sights and attractions. Rain forests, dazzling waterfalls and quiet beaches are inspiration to many. A climb to the three-tired waterfall, Argyll Falls is quite an experience or you could take a guided tour of the tropical jungle. Little Tobago is 450-acre bird sanctuary with several species including the red-billed tropic birds, hummingbirds, sooties, boobies and motmots. The beaches of both Trinidad and Tobago are excellent. Those on the northern coast of Trinidad are shaded by almond trees that grow on their slopes. Secluded beaches like Blanchisseuse are ideal for the romantic at heart. Pigeon Point is lined with royal palms and offers paddle-boat rentals, dive facilities, food stands and gift shops. A small fee is charged. Lover's Beach is accessible only by boat and is famous for its pink sands.
